It’s never easy to say good bye

COVID has changed everything. I have loved this beautiful boat 1997 Chaparral 1830 SS for 18 years,. I purchased it from Buckeye Marine in Bobcaygeon and each year carefully returned it there for winterizing, shrink wrapping, storage and a thorough cleaning in the spring.

Each summer between uses it was protected from the elements on a boatlift in my boathouse. . . not a spot on it. This Spring, Buckeye Marine fired me as their customer. Their rationale was that the boat was “too old” for their post-pandemic limited capacity. So … sadly, because I am not a mechanic and had no additional support to get the boat in and. out of storage, I have decided to move it along to a family that will enjoy it as much or more than I have.

The pain in this decision lies in the realm of where it falls in my life – it is the end of the second-last chapter of the book of life. This was my dream boat and it is doubtful that I will have another like it. The challenge of annual storage and maintenance is beyond my current capacity. #sad.

So … I have chosen to say good-bye and to move on. The new family is living their best life on the water. I am happy for them and grateful that I was able to live my dream on the water, if only for a short time.
